Introduction to the East Midlands
East Midlands is home to home to 5.2 Million residents and 78.6% of which are of working age.
East Midlands’ vibrant, thriving major cities include Leicester, Nottingham, and Derby. Also included in the list are the classical cities of Lincoln, Bedford, Ely, and Northampton.
Having a higher percentage of economically active residents in the region with at least 149,000 businesses in the area, East Midlands is the best choice for entrepreneurs to grow a business and scale.

East Midlands is known to have the world’s first factory, Cromford Mill. It is also the birthplace of the world-renowned physicist and mathematician, Isaac Newton. It is also famed for its Robin Hood legends. Lastly, it is the Warner Bros’ perfect location for their box office hit Batman film, the Dark Knight Rises.
Tourists and residents alike are drawn to the must-see city attractions and peaceful walks in the national park appropriate for business and home life.

The East Midlands Finance Director Network (December)
The East Midlands FD Network is open to senior finance and accountancy professionals. Our mission is to help CFOs and Finance Directors continue their professional development through:

- Observing keynote speakers
The event will feature enlightening presentations by HSBC with an “Economic Update” along with Grant Thornton who will provide a presentation on “Working Capital impacts on M&A Transactions”. Following this, there will be business-related workshop discussions where you can exchange and swap ideas as well as build new, long-lasting relationships with your peers.
Midlands Development Conference (September)
Centred around the UK’s build-back better agenda the third annual Midlands Development Conference brings together the region’s biggest developers to showcase billions of pounds worth of their forthcoming projects and discuss key economic growth challenges that the built environment industry will help solve as part of their regeneration ambitions.
Topics for 2021 include creating a zero carbon Midlands, tacking high street and town centre revitalisation, solving the housing crisis, building smarter and healthier cities and maximising the potential of the Midlands Engine.
Enterprising Women Summer Netwalk (August)
Join Enterprising Women co-chairs Jean Mountain and Eileen Richards MBE for our first in-person event of 2021 as we head to Attenborough Nature Reserve for a spot of walking and informal networking in the open air.
Manufacturing and Engineering Conference
The Chamber’s annual Manufacturing and Engineering Conference gives delegates an insight into what various experts expect to happen in the foreseeable future, helping to steer Chamber policy and offer a glimpse of where we should be heading as we look to the future.
The conference brings together leaders from across the sector and, through a series of keynote addresses and expert panel discussions, examines challenges and explores where opportunities might present themselves and how business and support organisations can best work together to ensure the East Midlands continues to be a sector lead in the UK and beyond.
Digital Growth Programme
Organisations across Leicester and Leicestershire can benefit from a range of fully-funded workshops, the opportunity to receive financial help and free one-to-one business advice to help introduce new digital technology, through the Digital Growth Programme.
Managed by the Chamber, the Programme (formerly known as eBusiness Club) is part-funded by the European Regional Development Fund and offers an array of awareness-raising seminars, strategic action-planning workshops and conferences.
Support is available for SMEs registered on the programme, and is designed to help enterprises to embrace emerging technology, learn about new software and gain digital skills.
Bank of England Forum (Monthly)
The Bank regularly engages with the Chamber, seeking to gauge current levels of business confidence and investment intentions among members. These events provide a fantastic opportunity for members to have their say and exert influence.
The Bank listens to business leaders’ observations on a variety of ongoing issues that do, or have the potential to, affect businesses locally and regionally. The feedback helps to compliment the intelligence supplied by the Chamber’s economic research and the emerging issues arising from these forums are fed into the Monetary Policy Committee, which sets the monthly interest rates affecting us all.
East Midlands Cyber Security Week
As technology is incorporated into more aspects of our daily lives, remote-working has become the norm. This has meant cyber-crimes and cyber security have evolved and diversified, bringing new challenges.
The changing landscape increased the need to develop innovative managerial, technological, and strategic solutions to allow the business world to keep moving.
